I'm about 50 pages from finishing The Exorcist, and aside from the fact that I find kind of funny how the actual exorcist only shows up now, after being introduced in the prologue, I'm so enamored with the fact that it's still not confirmed whether it's an actual possession or not.

Even if they are kind of overlooking the child-rotating-her-head-over-back thing. I feel like they moved on too quickly in brushing That aside.

It's just such a good book, especially with how it kind of makes you believe telepathy can be just... a thing teenagers do sometimes, as if it's on the same level of having crying fits and slamming doors. Which I guess makes sense for a book written during the last few years of the CIA seriously funding research on telepathic super soldiers and talking dolphins.

I imagine that writing a book after everything that went down in the 60s would do that to your scientifically based novel on faith and psychiatry.

I may add this one to my collection one day. For now I simply got it from the library because I don't have that big a book budget, but I'm gonna write it down somewhere.

But I’ve been wanting to read the original “The Exorcist” book/novel ever since I watched the movie, and I’m wondering if any has/knows the age rating? It’s kinda silly but I have a heavy discomfort with certain topics, I’m fine with violence, gore, and things like that, but not so much of other things. I know this is kinda stupid but if anyone has/would like to make/knows an at least somewhat detailed/accurate age rating/content warning that’d be nice :]

Black Butler: a rich guy with fancy food has a demon who kills people for him.

Mo Dao Zu Shi: a guy eats spicy food and summons demons. Everyone hates him except for his seemingly mortal enemy.

Ti Guan Ci Fu: a guy is a god, but has no food. He falls in love with a demon king.

Scum Villain’s Self-Saving System: a guy is isekai’d into a book after being killed by food and falls in love with the demon who is supposed to kill him. He lives.

i just want more media and literature where the protagonist gets like. dehumanized. or demonized or possessed or changed into something that's not quite human one day and then they just have existential crises about it. and they suffer. is that too much to ask

My partner and I went to the bookstore the other day, because they'd FINALLY got in a copy of Book of Bill and also I wanted to grab The Exorcist (book). While walking by the Halloween display, I pointed out a Ouija board tucked behind some other spooky board games and made a joke about buying it to recreate The Exorcist (film and book) (that scene is pretty much the same in both). Both of us thoroughly amused by this serendipity, I picked up both my books and we made our way to the till (with me a little disappointed that they'd had The Exorcist (book) but not Legion). Waiting in the line, I looked over at the Halloween display again, since we were looking at it from a different direction and I wanted to see what they had on the other side-- and I gasped and clutched at my partner's arm. What we hadn't been able to see, since the Ouija board had been behind other video games, was that it was a The Exorcist (film) branded Ouija board all along. This set us giggling in the checkout line about the absurd irony of selling a Ouija board branded with a movie that treats Ouija boards as unquestionable threats.
